Plan for conducting the integrated and coordinated events of the
"SLAVYANKA" Festival of Russian people in the United States:

The festival is dedicated to the celebration in 2012 of the Year of Russia in the USA and the Year of the USA in Russia.

We propose that the SLAVYANKA Festival begin in Texas on January 8, 2012.  The United Russian-American Association [URAA] supports the initiative of the Slavic National Holiday Center in the USA (Dallas, Texas) and of the Association of Slavic Immigrants of the USA for the establishment of a Slavic Day in America—a holiday for all Russian-speaking Americans.  The promoters are gathering the 100,000 signatures, which need to be submitted to the President of the United States and to the U.S. Congress.  Subsequently, the decision will be made at the legislative level regarding a holiday for American Slavs.  Since a holiday on the day of Slavic literature and culture (the day of Saints Cyril and Methodius) is important for a broad spectrum of people who speak Russian and write using the Cyrillic alphabet, we believe the time is right for the URAA to begin to work actively to support the project and to collect signatures for the petition.

Thursday, 24 May 2012, will be the opening of the Festival in cities throughout Texas.

On Friday, 25 May, there will be performances by theater groups in Russian, and the results of special reading competitions, of an essay contest, etc. will be announced.

Saturday, 26 May 2012, will be a day of concerts.  There will be performances by Russian and American groups.

In June and July 2012 the Festival will take place in Washington and in New York, and also in various states and cities that have expressed their desire to participate.  The events can be linked in terms of their dates to the events scheduled by the Russian-American Presidential Commission.  In accordance with the decisions of the Russian-American Presidential Commission, a program of cultural cooperation between Russia and the USA is being prepared.

A preliminary decision has been made regarding holding the Year of Russia in the USA and Year of the USA in Russia cultural exchange festivals in the year 2012.  The main events of the year in the area of museum/exhibition cooperation have been deemed to be the participation of Russia as the main guest at the Smithsonian Folk Festival in Washington, D.C. and the historical and cultural exhibit program "Hail to Russia!" (Slava Rossii!).

In August 2012 the SLAVYANKA Festival will continue in California at Fort Ross.
Fort Ross is a sacred memory of Russian glory (on 13 August 1812 it was named Fort Ross [Krepost' Ross"]
U.S. authorities view the upcoming bicentennial celebration of the former Russian settlement of Fort Ross in the state of California as a "real opportunity for the development of cooperation" with Russia.  Assistant Secretary of State for Matters of Education and Culture Ann Stock made that statement in an interview with an ITAR-TASS correspondent. Fort Ross's bicentennial will be celebrated in 2012.  The Assistant Secretary of State noted, "This will be a really very important and entertaining event."  In the fall of that same year a scientific conference will be held dedicated to this anniversary.  According to Ms. Stock, "The specific plans for this project are still under discussion, however we already know that, by and large, bicentennial events will be held all year.  We view this as an opportunity to develop real cooperation."

The events organized by Russian nationals make their own weighty contribution to the development of real cooperation between Russia and the USA.
